Save Visible

Save only visible drawing entities as a new drawing on disk.

This function allows you to save only entities that are currently visible i.e. entities on layers that are being displayed, to the new drawing.

Neither this function, nor the Save Selected function, alter the current drawing in any way. The functions simply save the required entities to a new file on disk. You need to open that new file in order to see the results.

All the layers from the original drawing are saved in the new drawing, but only the currently visible drawing entities are saved.

Use the Layer Settings or Set Visible Layers functions to make the entities you want saved visible before running this function.

Procedure

The drawing below has a number of layers, as seen in the insert on the left.

All layers have now been turned off except for the "Slab" layer.

To save only the visible layers as a new drawing:

1. Select File ►Save Options ► Save Visible or click the icon in the Main toolbar.

2. In the Save As window, select a filename and/or file path in which to save the drawing from previously saved material. Alternatively, create a new filename and/or file path.

3. Click Save. Only the visible drawing is saved, along with all the layers from the original drawing. The layers not visible when you save are empty. The original drawing remains open and you will need to open the newly saved drawing to view it. You may be prompted to save the original drawing when you try to close it as it may have changed.
