This function allows you to convert the road model surface into a surface (YXZ points plus lines) in the DTM model.
Procedure
The procedure differs depending on whether the selected road is a cross-section based model, or a strings based model.
The cross-sections must exist in a road database, and a horizontal alignment must have been coordinated.
The layer from which the cross-sections in the roads file are extracted, and the terrain surface into which the generated points are added, is selected. A suffix can optionally be entered to add to the names of the points generated. By default, all the points on the cross-sections are translated to YXZ coordinates. If the Batters Only check box is selected, only the first two points on the left and the last two points on the right of the cross-section are translated (in other words, only the banks).
The generated points are automatically named, to enable the points to be connected by lines using a suitable name filter in the Intelli-Lines function. The naming convention is as follows:
Ground points are called ...., l3x, l2x, l1x, clx, r1x, r2x,.....
Design points are called bblx, sblx, ..., l1x, clx, r1x, ..., sbrx, tbrx.
The "x" suffix on all the points indicates that they come from cross-sections, and would enable a mass deletion at a later stage if necessary. An Intelli-Line name filter that connected all the "l1" points would pick up the left edge of the road, a filter that connected all the "bb" points would pick up all the bottom of banks (both left and right), and so on.
Fill in the relevant data and click OK.
This function is used to convert the road strings model into DTM points in the Terrain model. A DTM point is created for each string vertex and automatically connected with break lines, according to the string hierarchy, to form a DTM surface of the road. This road DTM model then merges into the specified destination DTM surface.
So, if you have a DTM of the natural ground and a road strings model, you can create a merged DTM surface containing the roads model.
Select the DTM surface to translate the roads model to, as well as if you want to include the entire road section from left toe to right toe or just the carriageway portion.
Click Translate All to translate all the visible roads, or Translate Current to translate the current road only.
