Mechanical

This function allows you to draw a predefined gear, or specify and create a new gear definition.

The Mechanical Setup option defines the default line styles and pens to use.

Make sure that the drawing units are set to "mm" (millimetres) before using the mechanical toolkit functions.

Procedure

  1. The Spur Gear definition window displays.

You can select a gear from the drop-down list or fill in the relevant data and create a new gear.

  1. Click Add to create a new gear.

  1. Type in the new name and click OK.

  2. Make the changes to the Pressure Angle, Number of teeth and Module. The PCD is calculated automatically from the given dimensions.

  3. Enter the Shaft diameter and Key width and depth, if required.

  4. Select the line type (solid or hidden) to use.

  5. Click OK to draw the specified gear.

  6. You are prompted to save the changes.

  1. Click Yes to add to the gear library.

  2. You are prompted to:

Indicate centre point for Gear

  1. Indicate a centre point and the gear is drawn. You can continue drawing another gear, or press [Esc] to end the function.

Rotating the Gear

  1. Select the gear and highlight it.

  1. Use the Modify ► 2D Rotate and rotate the gear around it's centre point.

  1. You are prompted to enter the angle  from the keyboard or using the cursor.
