WATERDATABOREHOLES |
|
|
This function allows you to input and edit the borehole data.
Procedure
The borehole window displays with four tabbed pages.
Option
|
Description |
Name |
Optional descriptive borehole name. Typically, it corresponds to borehole name as stated in the hydrogeological report. |
ID Number |
Automatically generated unique identifier. |
Y Coordinate |
Y coordinate of borehole. |
X Coordinate |
X coordinate of borehole. |
Ground Elevation |
Ground level at borehole. |
Depths (measured from ground level) |
All depths are measured from the ground level, as common in hydrogeological reports. |
Water at rest |
Essential value when using drawdown curve to accurately model dynamic water levels, otherwise optional. |
Water while operating |
Dynamic water level corresponding to the discharge equal to recommended yield. |
Pump intake |
Depth to pump intake. |
Recommended yield (l/s) |
Yield as given in the hydrogeological report. |
Using a drawdown curve significantly increases accuracy, but requires additional info which is not always available to design engineers. Therefore, the drawdown curve is an optional but highly recommended feature.
The program implements the Jacob equation to determine the drawdown for a given flow:
s = B * q + C * q2
Where
s = Drawdown
q = Borehole discharge
B = Linear aquifer plus linear well loss coefficient
C = Non-linear well loss coefficient
Coefficients B and C are calculated using least square regression on supplied points.
Two points on the curve originate from the first page:
Water depth at rest.
Up to five additional points can be appended.
Specify the borehole pump equipment.

Description |
Column and Shaft |
|
Length |
Length of a column, from pump flange to connection with borehole installation above ground level. Use … to enter an approximate value. Accurate length can be determined from the detail drawing. |
Column diameter |
Internal diameter of the column. This is the diameter of the pump discharge pipe, not the borehole sleeve. |
Shaft diameter |
Shaft diameter is typically given in the pump catalogue. Leave at zero when shaft is absent. |
Roughness |
Roughness of the column wall. |
Minor losses coefficient |
Sum of minor loss coefficients due to foot valve, check or isolating valve, elbows, reducers and other elements of the entire borehole installation. |
Pump |
|
Fixed delivery |
Select this option for preliminary design, or to obtain the approximate pump duty point prior to pump selection. When using the Fixed delivery option, select delivery based on water requirements and recommended borehole yield. Use … to make delivery equal to yield. |
Model |
Pump designation as specified in the catalogue. Enter manually or use the Paste or Select Borehole Pump options. |
Motor Size (kW) |
Enter manually or use the Paste or Select Borehole Pump options. |
Nominal Speed (rpm) |
Enter manually or use the Paste or Select Borehole Pump options. |
Pump Curve button |
Click to open the Pump Curve Editing window where the pump curve for the selected pump displays. |
System Curve button |
Display the system curve. |
Select Pump button |
Display the Select Borehole Pump options. It is recommended to run Time Simulation with boreholes modelled as fixed delivery, and with all controls in place. |
Borehole operation can be controlled by pressure, reservoir level, time or delayed start. More than one control criteria can be used simultaneously.
To activate one of the controls, select the appropriate item and fill-in data in the relevant tab.
Controls can be used even when the fixed delivery option is active.
Files of various types, such as site visit reports, photos showing junction layouts or reinforcement of the reservoir floor, can be attached to Water entities.
Note that only a link to the document is saved in the water file, not the contents of the document.
