Misc

This function allows you to add a viewport entity to an existing layout.

The scale of the new viewport does not have to be the same as that of the named view that you select to use.

You can modify the shape of the viewport by selecting it and dragging it's grab handles.

You must have at least one named view defined, and one layout added to the drawing, to be able to insert a viewport.

You cannot edit the drawing in the paper space layout. Instead, edit the drawing in the Drawing tab and the viewports in the layouts update automatically.

Procedure

  1. Select one of the paper space layouts. You cannot select the first Drawing layout, which is the drawing space layout.

  2. Select Layouts ► Add Viewport or click the icon in the toolbar. If there are no named views in the drawing for the new viewport to get it's view settings from, the following message displays.

  1. If there is at least one named view in the drawing, you are prompted to:

  1. Select a named viewport from the list.

  1. You can also configure various settings.

  1. The viewport is drawn rubberbanded to assist in positioning it.

  2. Click in the layout window to indicate the position of the new viewport. The viewport is added to the current Paper Space.

  1. If required, you can modify the shape of a viewport by selecting it and dragging it's grab handles.

  2. You can jump from the viewport into the Drawing Space to edit the data. Right-click and select the Step into drawing option. The layout is updated automatically.

Step into Drawing

This function allows you to change the current layout to the “Drawing” layout, and set the drawing view to that of the layout viewport. This is a convenient way to edit drawing entities that are visible in a layout viewport.

Many of these functions are also available in the Properties Bar as buttons in the selected viewport's properties.
