Misc |
This function allows you to add a viewport entity to an existing layout.
The scale of the new viewport does not have to be the same as that of the named view that you select to use.
You can modify the shape of the viewport by selecting it and dragging it's grab handles.
You must have at least one named view defined, and one layout added to the drawing, to be able to insert a viewport.
You cannot edit the drawing in the paper space layout. Instead, edit the drawing in the Drawing tab and the viewports in the layouts update automatically.
Procedure
Select one of the paper space layouts. You cannot select the first Drawing layout, which is the drawing space layout.
Adjust the viewport scale:
Specify that the viewport must only include the layers that are currently visible:
Choose if you want the viewport to have a frame or not:
Specify if you want the background of the drawing masked out behind the viewport:
The viewport is drawn rubberbanded to assist in positioning it.
If required, you can modify the shape of a viewport by selecting it and dragging it's grab handles.
You can select a layout viewport and right-click to view the context popup menu.

Set Visible Layers in Viewport |
This function allows you to set the selected viewport’s layer visibility i.e. which layers are visible in the viewport. A dialog allows you to choose which layers should be visible in the viewport using a checkbox list. You are also able to save and load the viewport’s layer visibility state to/from a layer state file. |
Pan Viewport |
This function allows you to pan across the part of the drawing that is visible in the viewport by clicking and dragging with the mouse. |
Recentre Viewport |
This function allows you to recentre the part of the drawing that is visible in the viewport by clicking in the viewport to indicate a new target point. |
Add Custom Clip to Viewport |
If the viewport does not already have a custom clip boundary, this function allows you to indicate an existing polyline or other “closed” entity, which will be used to generate a custom clip boundary for the viewport. |
Remove Custom Clip from Viewport |
If the viewport has a custom clip boundary, it will be removed. The viewport will then clip to its original extents. |
Set View to Named View |
If one or more Named Views are defined in the drawing, this function will allow you to select which Named View’s settings will be applied to the selected layout viewport. |
Step into Drawing |
This function allows you to change the current layout to the “Drawing” layout, and set the drawing view to that of the layout viewport. This is a convenient way to edit drawing entities that are visible in a layout viewport. |
Many of these functions are also available in the Properties Bar as buttons in the selected viewport's properties.
