Drill Holes

Draw drill holes in plan and side view.

This function allows you to draw a pre-defined drill hole, or specify and create a new drill hole definition.

The Mechanical Setup option defines the default line styles and pens to use.

Make sure that the drawing units are set to "mm" (millimetres) before using the mechanical toolkit functions.

Procedure

1. The Drilled Holes options display.

• • Select a predefined drill hole from the dropdown list, or fill in the relevant data.

  • Select whether to draw the top view, the side view, or both.

  • Select the line type (solid or hidden) to use for the side and plan view.

2. When you have configured the settings, click OK to draw the specified drill hole.

3. You are prompted to:

Indicate the position of the Hole side view

4. Position the cursor where the drill hole must be drawn, and then click. The hook point is at the top of the drill hole, as shown below.

5. If you have selected the Automatically align the side view checkbox in the drill hole definition, the drill hole is rotated to align with the nearest object. If not, you are prompted for a rotation:

6. A popup menu displays with the following options.

7. If you select the Enter Rotation option, you are prompted to:

8. Type in the required angle, and the  press [Enter] or click Enter . The drill hole is drawn in side view, at the indicated angle.

9. You are prompted to:

Indicate Centre for plan view

10. Cursor hold is still active at this point, allowing you to specify a position for the plan view of the drill hole that is aligned with the axis of the drill hole side view. Indicate a centre point for the plan view.

11. You are prompted to define an additional point for the rotation of the centreline axes of the plan view:

12. In the example below, a point is indicated at a 45 degree angle to the drill hole centre point so that the axes were drawn at a 45 degree angle.

Using the Repeat Option

The repeat function is used to draw multiple equidistant copies of the drill hole.

Linear

To draw multiple copies of the drill hole in a straight lineL

1. Select the Linear radio button.

2. Enter the number of drill holes you want to draw.

3. Now enter the distance between the drill hole centres.

4. Click OK and follow the prompts.

Polar

To draw multiple copies of the drill hole in a circular arrangement:

1. Select the Polar radio button.

2. Enter the number of drill holes you want to draw.

3. Select either the Spacing or PCD option from the list box.

• • If you select Spacing enter the distance between the drill hole centres.

  • If you select PCD enter the PCD of the circle on whose circumference the drill holes will be arranged.

4. Click OK and follow the prompts.

The side view won't be drawn if you select the Polar repeat option.

Adding Drill Hole Definitions

To add your own drill hole definitions:

1. Click Add and then enter the relevant data.

2. The drill hole definition is saved when you click OK, or when you select another drill hole definition from the list.

Deleting Drill Hole Definitions

To remove a drill hole definition, selecting it in the list and click Remove.

If you modify an existing drill hole definition, you are asked to save it. Click No to avoid changing the original drill hole definition.
